Review: S.H.Figuarts – Kamen Rider Gai

S.H.Figuarts – Kamen Rider Gai
Tamashii Web Exclusive – July Release – ¥3,465

Not counting Blank Form, our first Ryuki exclusive is Kamen Rider Gai, the rhino themed Rider from the show. A figure of this suit was last seen in the Figma line as Kamen Rider Thrust from Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. SHF Gai features a pretty similar figure, but done in the mold and styling we’ve come to expect from the Ryuki SHFs. He was released via Tamashii Web Shop and shipped in July for ¥3,465 before shipping and middleman fees of course. Gai looks fantastic. Despite some bulky armor, nothing hinders his articulation, and even his large helmet doesn’t get in the way heavily of his neck movement. The paint used on the figure is Bandai’s signiture silver, and it looks stunning on this mold, considering it comprises over 50% of the toy. Unfortunately Gai doesn’t come with much. Included with Gai is his Strike Vent, eight additional hands, and four advent cards (Confine Vent, Strike Vent, Final Vent, Advent). Unfortunately Gai didn’t stick around the show long enough to come with specialized hands or more Vents, so we’re stuck with this rather limited accessory layout. As with all these releases, it’s a bummer his Contract Monster wasn’t included, but given the selling factor of Genocider, it’s understandable. While Gai is a great release, it’s hard to recommend his exclusive price tag for such little in return. If you can get him on a good deal, go for it, as I see very little wrong with the figure. He’s just not worth the premium price.
