A couple times a year, Pokémon releases a set of (usually three) different tins centered around the theme of the TCG at the time. Each tin usually has one holofoil promotional card, four booster packs from the current era of cards, and occasionally an additional bonus. The Fall 2013 set of tins centers around Team Plasma. Each tin features either Thundurus EX, Lugia EX, or Deoxys EX, four booster packs (2 Plasma Blast, 1 Plasma Freeze, 1 Plasma Storm), and an online code card to receive that tin’s promo card. For $17.99, four booster packs (retailing roughly $4.19 each) is a pretty good deal considering you get a promo card of a playable EX, as well as a code card for use online. Of course, if you pull some good cards from the packs, the worth is even better! As with normal booster packs, these are indeed a gamble, but if you plan on buying packs anyway, ensuring you get a playable EX is a nice cushion to get your money’s worth.
