The Deluxe Battle Gear line since its introduction in Samurai has given us some pretty great role play weapons. The next in the line is the Super Mega Saber, the US version of Gokaiger’s Gokai Saber.  At the core, the Super Mega Saber is a lot like the Gokai Saber. They’re virtually the same length, however the Super Mega Saber has a much slimmer hilt, which actually benefits the overall aesthetics of the toy. The seven color LED has been removed, but the blade has been changed to a clear hollow plastic containing a red, green, and blue LED, which actually looks gorgeous, especially in the dark. I would have loved to see yellow and pink added as well, but it’s not a deal breaker to me by any means. The toy has three different slashing sounds, and a charge sound when a Ranger Key is inserted. With a key inserted, press the trigger to hear Troy yell “Super Mega Saber!” followed by a final attack explosion sound. Individual attacks will cycle through the LEDs randomly, the charge will alternate between red and green rapidly, while the final attack activates them all at once. Included with the toy is the Super Megaforce Blue Ranger Key, which activates “Super Megaforce Blue!” and “Super Mega Jet!” sounds in the Legendary Morpher. Naturally, the Super Mega Saber doesn’t read the keys, and all keys will do the same thing. Overall, the Super Mega Saber is just about on par with the Gokai Saber. While I love the LEDs in the blade, and the slimmer form factor, some more LEDs in the blade would have been nice, and recognition on which color Ranger Key was inserted would have been a cool feature to have. That being said, for $24.99 ($29.99 at TRU) you can’t really go wrong, and well worth the pick up if you see it in stores and want a rendition of the weapon. Another neat toy from the Deluxe Battle Gear line.
