Our eighth Ressha is none other than the Grandpa Train himself, Diesel Ressha! He was released alongside his full on Diesel-Oh Set in April, 2014 for ¥3,500. The combined Diesel-Oh Set retails for ¥6,500. Diesel Ressha is our longest Ressha yet, clocking in at over 500mm long. My issue with the train mode lies in the fact that it segments in only three pieces, and being such a long train, it makes maneuvering the toy difficult during play. When combined with Tank Ressha and Car Carrier Ressha, the Diesel Ressha can form Diesel-Oh. Diesel-Oh is really weird. He’s flat as can be with weirdly placed arms, but I can’t help but love it. I wish some changes were made overall, but the core design is really neat. It’s different enough from ToQ-Oh to make it really neat on display. Together they form ChoToQ-Oh, which is basically a wide ToQ-Oh with boots and towers on his shoulders. Despite the really simple approach, I like it. The suit in the show ultimately looks a lot better than the toy, since it’s allowed to mass shift and take liberties the toy can’t make. Given the circumstances, I like what they did and it’s kind of neat. It’s unfortunate the upcoming combination with BuildDai-Oh leaves a little to be desired. Hopefully it looks better in person. As it stands, Diesel Ressha is really neat, especially with its length adding a lot to our growing Rainbow Line. Diesel-Oh takes getting used too, but has an interesting design that I enjoy. Finally, ChoToQ-Oh unfortunately suffers from the mass of trains but it’s an interesting take on train robo and I dig what they did.
