Unboxing: 1Up Box – September, 2014 “Adventure”

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as ” a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the first box has shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $9.52 plus $5 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core. Also similar to Loot Crate, shirts can be included in the box too!

• “Legend of Adventure” T-Shirt
• Adventure Time Jake Plush
• New Super Mario Bros. Dangler (Mario & Yoshi)
• 4 TMNT Prints
• Adventure Theme Pin
• 1Up Box Pin
This is a reminder that September marks the very first 1Up Box! These folks just started up, and for a first box, I’m actually impressed. Anyone that knows me knows I haven’t had a chance to really dive into Adventure Time. With that in mind, this box didn’t entirely win me over with main content. However, the rest of the goodies were pretty neat. I do love the pins included with these services, so those are always neat. The TMNT prints look fantastic, and I’ll probably hang them up near my work desk. The Mario Danglers are always cool, and I’m glad I once again avoided getting a duplicate. While I’m not a huge fan of Adventure Time, the Jake plush is still a nice size, and is certainly cool still. The shirt is actually pretty cool. Even while not being a huge fan of the show, I can respect the design, and given that it is Zelda related, I definitely like it. For $9.52 ($14.52 shipped) you more than got your money’s worth with this box. The shirt alone costs more than that on most shirt sites! Add the Jake plush, and you already got your money’s worth. For a first time box, I’m definitely impressed with what they managed to pull off. With time, I feel like 1Up Box can become a real contender in these subscription box wars. Great first box.
As with any of these subscription services, they aren’t for everyone. However, 1Up Box is currently the cheapest box on the market at only $9.52 before shipping. While you don’t get as much as you would in a Nerd Block or Loot Crate, you still more than get your money’s worth. In essence, it’s a great box for those that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, but still want to experience the joy of receiving that box in the mail. With them doing themes, you once again have the benefit of having a rough idea of what’s in store, to know if you want to get that month’s box or not. For those of you that can’t stomach the act of random goodies, well, these just aren’t for you.
