Nerd Block is a monthly subscription service from the people behind ShirtPunch. Each month, for only $19.99 USD, you receive a box containing a T-Shirt, along with four to six collectibles from a variety of franchises that people love. For you horror genre fans out there, Nerd Block has started the Horror Block, a different $19.99 box that focuses strictly on top horror franchises. They’ve also introduced Arcade Block, yet another $19.99 box that focuses strictly on gaming franchises. Finally, available for the younger is the Nerd Block Jr. for both boys and girls, for $13.99. The Nerd Block Jr. doesn’t have a shirt, but contains a few extra toys, and focuses on kids franchises like My Little Pony, Pokémon, Skylanders, etc. Both are great values, and you always receive more than what you pay for. The fun is in the surprise!

This month was the first test of “Themed” Nerd Blocks. Much like other services such as Loot Crate, Nerd Block has decided to theme their blocks starting in January, 2015.

October, 2014’s Theme: Collide – Marvel vs. DC

IMG_0264

• Jay and Silent Bob – Batman and Robin Shirt
• Funko POP! Exclusive Deadpool Vinyl
• Avengers Agent Coulson’s Vintage Captain America Trading Cards Replica Prop
• Arkham Asylum “Patient’s Notes” Sticky Note Set
• Spider-Man, Wolverine, Batman, and Superman Pins
• Kevin Smith Stickers
• The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap Dangler

This month marks the first Block with a theme. Either Nerd Block received enough mixed bag complaints about the franchises being all over the place, or they just decided to try something new. Starting in January, Nerd Block will become a themed service like Loot Crate. This gives you a chance to check out the theme for the month, and decide if you want to subscribe to the Block that month. This month’s themes and items were selected by Kevin Smith, known for Jay and Silent Bob among several other things. The theme was “Collide – Marvel vs. DC” meaning all the items had to do with either Marvel or DC franchises. Of course, Nerd Block was sitting on some product and tossed in a Legend of Zelda dangler as well, just for kicks. The items in here are actually pretty impressive. The Captain America replica cards alone retail for $39.99 (albeit in a nice collectors container, rather than a playing card box)! Add that onto a neat note pad, exclusive pins, exclusive stickers, an exclusive shirt, AND an exclusive POP! figure? The value alone within this Block compared to past Blocks is astounding. While I’m not a big enough Jay and Silent Bob fan to get super excited about the shirt, everything else is really awesome. I always love it when these things contain POP! toys. At the end of the day, this is one of the best Nerd Block’s I’ve encountered.

As always, these aren’t for everyone, but if you’re willing to dish out about $30 a month for a surprise box filled with a bunch of neat (and possibly exclusive!) items, then this is a great thing to do. If you’re a horror fan or have children you want to share the experience with, be sure to check out the Horror Block, Arcade Block, and Nerd Block Jr. subscriptions as well. These things are really fun to me, and I look forward to next month’s Block.

Thanks Nerd Block!
