Review: Deluxe Dino Saber (Power Rangers Dino Charge)

Deluxe Dino Saber
$24.99 from Toys R Us

P1080864

The other sidearm weapon for the Dino Charge Rangers is the Dino Saber, released in the $24.99 Deluxe Battle Gear price point, in an open-faced packaging very similar to the Super Mega Saber of yesterseason. This toy is designed after the Gaburicalibur from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. The sword itself is about X long. While roughly the same length as the Gaburicalibur, the Dino Saber features a slimmer base but a much longer blade. Like the Super Mega Saber, the Dino Saber has a light up blade, but it unfortunately only lights up a green-ish yellow color. With no Charger inserted, the toy cycles through three different sword slashing sounds with the blade of the toy lighting up each time. Insert any Charger (there is no reader, only an inside button that gets pressed) to hear a roar and an activation sound. When the trigger is pressed, you now hear a final attack sound.

Overall, the Dino Saber doesn’t seem to have the same pow that the Super Mega Saber did (probably the lack of three different LEDS might have something to do with it for me). It’s definitely smaller then the Japanese version, and the mouth no longer opens to insert the Zyudenchi. Instead, the Charger just pops right into the mouth normally. That being said it’s still a pretty nice toy and the blade length makes it potentially better to some people. The combination with the Dino Charge Morpher to make the Dino Cannon is pretty nice. While inherently smaller than the Japanese version, it still looks pretty neat, and the extra long blade makes the bayonet design of the Cannon look really sick. Unfortunately the normal design of the cannon now has a bit of a longer growth on it. This is where a retractable blade ala the Mega Blade would have been nice. Not quite worth the $24.99 price tag, but a fun weapon with features that definitely make it a worthy part of the collection.
