Review: DX Door-Ju [Door Gun] (Kamen Rider Drive)

Review: DX Door-Ju [Door Gun]
December, 2014 – ¥3,800

P1090159

Drive’s next weapon made its debut in December, 2014 for ¥3,800: the Door-Ju, otherwise known as the Door Gun when translated. As you could probably guess by the name, the Door-Ju is a hand gun shaped like the door of Tridoron. The toy is a decent size. Still smaller than the show, but like most gun weapons, it fits nicely in the hand and is a convincing size. Turn on the toy to hear “Open your Door!”. The toy (like the show) has a limited number of shots (five in this case) before it needs to reload. To reload, lift the latch on the door and open it! If you try to fire with it open, you hear “Han door…” meaning “Open door…”. Close it up and you’re good for another round. A Shift Car can be inserted into the top of the toy to initiate the Full Throttle attack. Like the Handle-Ken, if the Drive Driver is activated and in range, it will display a picture of a car door on the screen, and announce which Shift Car (the one previously used in the Drive Driver) is doing the attack. Included with the Door-Ju is the Shift Technic Shift Car. This little green Shift Car is designed after a garbage truck, and lets Drive transform into Type Technic, an all new form. Use it with the Drive Driver to hear all new transformation and attack sounds.

Overall, the Door-Ju is really fun. I always love gun weapons, since Bandai Japan does them so well. It’s definitely a step up from the Handle-Ken, and is just really fun to open and close. It does however get pretty repetitive fast. However, this is the only way to get the Shift Technic Shift Car in the DX format, so if how your Shift Car flips is important to you, then this is a must have, regardless of how you feel about the weapon. At least the weapon is fun though.
