Unboxing: 1Up Box – June, 2015 “Arcade”

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as “a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the boxes have shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $12.92 plus $6 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. Plus an exclusive shirt is always included! As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core.

Contents of June 2015’s box, as well as my unboxing video are after the jump.

June, 2015’s Theme: Arcade

• “Fight Fight Revolution” T-Shirt
• Street Fighter Bubble Bud (Guile)
• Pac-Man Arcade Cabinet Mint Tin
• Spider-Man Zipper Pull
• Retro Arcade Lanyard
• Arcade Decal
• Arcade Theme Pin
After a lackluster “Sidekicks” box, I am happy to say that the Arcade block hit it for me. The shirt is absolutely amazing. I used to be really into DDR, and Street Fighter is always cool, so this shirt is just great to me. Ryu is so happy! The Bubble Bud is creepy to say the least, but for some reason I really like it. I don’t eat mints like those, but I plan on using the Pac-Man cabinet for some photo galleries with small figures. It scales great! The lanyard, zipper pull, and decal are all just okay. The zipper pull is weird (I don’t think Spider-Man with gaming, even though he has plenty of games). The lanyard does look cool. I’m not in the need for one, but I do dig it. The decal, while sort of lame in practice, looks really nice. Those with brush metal laptop designs, or things like a Macbook might want to consider plastering this on there. It meshes well and looks nice. Not the greatest box 1Up has to offer, but it’s a step up from the Sidekick box that I ultimately really enjoyed.
As with any of these subscription services, they aren’t for everyone. However, 1Up Box is currently the cheapest box on the market at only $12.92 before shipping. While you don’t get as much as you would in a Nerd Block or Loot Crate, you still more than get your money’s worth. In essence, it’s a great box for those that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, but still want to experience the joy of receiving that box in the mail. With them doing themes, you once again have the benefit of having a rough idea of what’s in store, to know if you want to get that month’s box or not. For those of you that can’t stomach the act of random goodies, well, these just aren’t for you.
