As if collecting promo cards wasn’t difficult enough, The Pokémon Company as decided to start releasing boxes known as the Premium Collections. First out of the gate is the Mega Metagross EX Premium Collection, retailing at a whopping $49.99 at most major retailers. This Premium Collection contained eight booster packs (two of each set XY through Phantom Forces), a Metagross EX promo card XY , a Mega Metagross EX promo card XY, a jumbo version of the Mega Metagross EX, a Metagross coin, and an exclusive Mega Metagross colored playmat. For those that don’t know, most competitive players use playmats to make sure their cards don’t nick on the table or anything like that. They’re not required, but it’s really neat to see TPCi acknowledge the rise in popularity of playmats, and release an official one in a promo set. If you are looking to buy packs, this set actually isn’t bad at all price wise. Playmats can range anywhere from $10 to $20 alone, eight packs costs roughly $32, and then I always factor in aorund $5 for the promo cards and coins and such. This brings your total right around the $50 mark no problem, so in my eyes, the set is worth it in that regard. Plus if you’re a promo collector, this set brings you two new promos for your collection. If you can get it as cheap as I did, it’s definitely worth it.
