Any gimmick, regardless of whether it comes from Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and now Ultraman will be sold in some set, one way or another. While Spark Dolls have been releasing for a while now, the Cyber Cards are new to Ultraman X. This here is the Cyber Card Set Vol. 01, implying there will be more in our future. The first volume includes Ultra Hero cards for Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Taro, and Ultraman Jack, as well as Ultra Monster cards for Cyber Eleking, Cyber Telesdon, Cyber Baltan, and Cyber Birdon. Together they retail for around ¥1,200 depending on where you pick it up from and were released at the start of the line in July, 2015.

As we went over in the XDevizer review, the Cyber Cards unlock a plethora of functions in the XDevizer. In closed mode, the Cyber Cards can activate a Condition Check Mode with the left button, and a Simulation Mode with the right button. While in open mode, things get different. The Cyber Cards unlock an iconic phrase or battle cry from the Ultraman or monster with the left button, and their iconic final attack with the right button.

We all know the Cyber Monsters all activate a new Armor for Ultraman X when scanned, though only Cyber Eleking is confirmed to appear in the show. As such, only the Cyber Eleking card can initiate a final attack in the XDevizer. The other three cards just play a standardized attack sound in the toy. That’s a little disappointing, but understandable given they probably won’t appear in the show.

The cards themselves are all a thick plastic, durable for sure. The artwork is all pretty cool, and they’re a really fun gimmick to collect. Each card has a Live Sign on the back that activates all the functions of the XDevizer, as well as a scene of them from the show. Also shown is a height and weight data, and a small blurb about them.

Overall, the Cyber Card Set is actually really nice. I think the price is a little too high for eight plastic cards. The package, while wonderful to look at on a store shelf, is VERY impractical for international shipping, which is rather unfortunate for importers. That being said, I like them a lot, and think the Cyber Card and Spark Doll combo is going to be really enjoyable to collect as Ultraman X continues.
