Robots in Disguise’s Warrior Class releases have been very hit and miss with collectors, but I for one have liked the few that I picked up. When the line first released, I picked up Bumblebee and Grimlock. Half a year later, come Wave 4, I’m picking them up again as Night Ops Bumblebee and Gold Armor Grimlock. Night Ops Bumblebee is our usual inverse color Bumblebee we get every year, though I have to wonder if something like this is gonna happen in the show, given Night Ops is featured in four different size classes so far. Gold Armor Grimlock is a G1 inspired Grimlock, ditching his RiD black and green for some G1 flavored silver and gold. The two components of Wave 4 were picked up from my local Target for $14.99 a piece.

Night Ops Bumblebee is just something I really like. Since they started doing it, I’ve always really liked how it looks on the various molds. I love normal Bee, but there’s something about the yellow accents on the black base that just does it for me. Both modes to me look absolutely great, especially the vehicle mode. A lot of people have been complaining about the yellow wheels, but I dig them. I’d have to see how it would look with black wheels or gray wheels, but the yellow wheels match the flow of the rest of the figure, and I can totally respect that. Bumblebee was a great mold in the first place, but this one tops it for me. Not for everyone for sure, but it’s always something I like.

Gold Armor Grimlock is neat in his own little way. The packaging makes it look like he was supposed to release with gold paint everywhere, a more brilliant gold. What we ended up with is a more dull bronze sort of color. Compared to this bright brown sort of color some pictures made him out to be, the actual physical copy in my hands is a lot more pleasing to the eye. The gold would have been ideal, but what we got is alright. Gold Armor Grimlock is a direct copy and paste of G1 Grimlock, down to the silver body, gold chest, and red underwear. Where as Night Ops Bumblebee was a direct repaint, Gold Armor Grimlock features a slightly remolded head, as he’s sporting a mouthless head as opposed to his original counterpart. My only complaint is that the black hands on the sides of the legs are still horribly gaudy, and the red eyes are fully painted in. I’d have less of a problem with it if just the circular eye was painted, but the entire portion is, and it just looks demonic. They pulled it off well though, and being one of my favorite Deluxe sized releases in a while, I still love him here, though I think I prefer the original figure’s color scheme. I’m not sure how “fixed” the elbows are, as they are still a ratchet, but I haven’t had any problems as of yet.

Overall, being repaints, you’ll either really like the color schemes, or you won’t really care about them. If you haven’t yet picked up Bee or Grimlock and really like any of these colors, go ahead! You shouldn’t be disappointed with the pick ups. If you like them, great! If you don’t, well, ignore them. Both Bee and Grimlock are still great figures half a year later, and I’m glad to own them again in these neat color schemes.
