Unboxing: 1Up Box – November, 2015 “Power”

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as “a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the boxes have shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $12.92 plus $6 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. Plus an exclusive shirt is always included! As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core.

Contents of November 2015’s box, as well as my unboxing video are after the jump.

November, 2015’s Theme: Power

• “Over 9000” Shirt
• Funko Mopeez (The Flash)
• Star Wars Puzzle (Kylo Ren)
• Harley Quinn Air Freshener
• Dragon Ball sticker
• DC Buildable Figures (Batman)

1Up Box produced another winner this month. Not everything is perfect, but there’s enough positives to make me enjoy this one a lot. Super Heroes are sort of my thing, be them from the east or the west, so an entire box based around them was alright in my book. Let’s start with the shirt. I don’t even know. I like the concept. I see so much “Goku vs. Superman” on those Facebook nerd groups that to actually see the mashup I’m okay with it. But the tossed in “Over 9000!” meme is overdoing it to the point where I don’t even want to wear it. I’m tired of the meme, and in this context it’s just stupid. The star of the box for me is the Mopeez. I’ve been tempted by these in the past at retailers, but to get my favorite TV super hero right now is super awesome, and I love it to pieces. The puzzle is cool. I like Kylo Ren, and I like puzzles, so it’s more or less a no brainer. The DC Buildable Figure is neat in its own basic way. I would have rather had Green Arrow, but Batman is always cool, and I think the concept is cute. The sticker and air freshener are just sort of there. Not really fond of either. At the end of the day, The Flash Mopeez is the greatest thing in this box for sure. He’s my new depressed best friend.

As with any of these subscription services, they aren’t for everyone. However, 1Up Box is currently the cheapest box on the market at only $12.92 before shipping. While you don’t get as much as you would in a Nerd Block or Loot Crate, you still more than get your money’s worth. In essence, it’s a great box for those that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, but still want to experience the joy of receiving that box in the mail. With them doing themes, you once again have the benefit of having a rough idea of what’s in store, to know if you want to get that month’s box or not. For those of you that can’t stomach the act of random goodies, well, these just aren’t for you.
