The Toucon Boost Ghost Eyecon is a Ghost Eyecon created from the spirit of Takeru’s father that grants him the Toucon Boost Damashii, a powerful new fiery form complete with its own unique weapon and abilities. The toy is unique in that it features its own dedicated lights and sounds, unlike other Ghost Eyecon releases. The toy can be inserted into the Ghost Driver for a new transformation sound, as well as into the Sunglasseslasher for an attack sound that only it can activate. It was released in December, 2015 for ¥2,000.

The look of the toy is something I love. Red and black is one of my favorite color schemes, and the fiery design is something that resonates with me. Unfortunately the fun stops there. I was super excited to hear that this had dedicated lights and sounds, independent from the Ghost Driver. Unfortunately, the sounds consist simply of some generic fiery and explosion noises, and doesn’t actually say the name of the Eyecon or anything like that. The LED inside glows nice, but the sounds leave a lot to be desired. Inserting it into the Ghost Driver will allow the Ghost Eyecon to play its own special sound upon insertion, as well as add a few sound effects and voice to the transformation jingle of the belt itself. Again, the independent LED does add a bit of flare, but once it’s in the Driver, it’s basically just another Ghost Eyecon.

While I was super excited for its release, as noisemaking gimmicks are my personal love, this one falls flat. The independent sounds are nothing short of generic, and the few added clips and flares during insertion in the belt don’t add enough to really warrant the ¥1,400 price tag this has over a normal Ghost Eyecon. If you’re just looking for the transformation jingle, save yourself the money and get the much cheaper Candy Toy or Gashapon version. Love the look, hate the execution.
