Gaim may have ended in 2013, but over 2 years later, we’re still getting movies and still getting Lockseeds! In the second Gaim Gaiden featuring Duke and Knuckle, Zack used Kaito’s old Genesis Core Unit along with the newly created Marron Energy Lockseed to transform into Kamen Rider Knuckle Jimber Marron Arms! Premium Bandai released the DX Marron Energy Lockseed in both November, 2015 and January, 2016. Packed with the Lockseed is the Genesis Core Unit, the middle black portion that was previously only a part of the DX Genesis Driver toy. It cost roughly ¥2,700 before shipping or middleman fees.

The Lockseed itself isn’t anything different than what we’re used to, even more so because it’s a repaint of the Peach Energy Lockseed. The back button of the toy features seven total phrases from Zack and Kaito, with the main button announcing the usual “Marron Energy!” phrase with a nice knightly fanfare. The toy can be used in the Genesis Driver to summon the Marron Energy Arms, as well as the corresponding Squash and Sparking attacks for the never used form. Using the toy with the supplied Genesis Core Unit and a Sengoku Driver will activate the Jimber Marron Arms, used by Knuckle in the film in conjunction with his Kurumi Lockseed. This form can attack with the usual Squash, Au Lait, and Sparking attacks. Finally, as usual, the toy can be used in the Sonic Arrow for additional attacks.

The inclusion of the Genesis Core Unit is a nice touch, especially for fans new to the series that might have trouble tracking down a Genesis Driver these days, despite the toy getting re-released not too long ago. If you’re a hardcore collector, having an extra isn’t bad, meaning you don’t have to pop it out of your Genesis Driver every time you want to hear the sounds. I would have loved to see this one remolded to play Knuckle’s usual guitar riff sound instead of the standard “Soiya!” sound, but considering the movie didn’t have ANY activation noises for this form, it’s something I can look past.

Overall, if you’re a fan of Zack, really need a Genesis Core Unit, or just a Lockseed completist, this set is a must have. The sounds are great, and despite being a repaint, the toy looks nice on display. As a fan of Gaim, I’m overjoyed the line can keep going this long, albeit in small bursts. Additionally, as a fan of Zack, I’m glad he got a chance to shine further.
