Doubutsu Gattai! Cube Eagle, Cube Shark, and Cube Lion combine to form the mighty Zyuoh King! In their Cube forms, each Cube Animal forms a perfect, well, cube, that can snap into any others to create stacks, pyramids, or anything of the like. Each can then transform into their Cube Animal form in a few easy steps. Finally, back in their Cube modes, they can stack and form Zyuoh King with the insertion of the Big King Sword. Zyuoh King is a tiny little Sentai mech, standing at only 9 inches tall. From its head pops the normal King Sword, which Zyuoh King can wield to attack. Zyuoh King released in February, 2016 for around ¥7,600.

The cube forms are honestly really simple, and other than connecting the clips and ports to make a stack or a pyramid, there really isn’t anything you can do with them. Transformation into their Cube Animal forms is really easy, with Eagle’s being an instant transformation (sans folding out wings), Shark being done in three steps, and Lion in only two. The Cube Animal forms aren’t the greatest looking, but for what they are, I really enjoy their designs. They’re unique, and extremely fast to transform.

Zyuoh King takes some getting used to, since we haven’t had a smaller mecha design since Boukenger. With a lot of fans entering the series around Gokaiger, seeing something like Zyuoh King is off-putting. His blocky nature and lack of split legs doesn’t help his case either. That doesn’t stop him from being really fun though. I love how simple he is to transform, and putting the Big King Sword in to complete the transformation fulfills my wildest Shrine of the Silver Monkey fantasies. I understand the complaints, but they simply don’t bother me. I like the small size, I like the ease of transformation, he’s just all in all fun for me.

Zyuoh King is a toy that a lot of people will probably scoff at and pass, but I can’t help but love it to pieces. He’s cute, small, easy to play with, and is just plain fun. While a lot will be against him, I can’t wait to get more and more cubes to build this guy up. If you can look past his “flaws” I definitely recommend him.

  1. I was a bit on the unimpressed side until I watched your video. It is a lot more intriguing in motion. I couldn’t stop laughing at the lion. So cute and so angry at the same time.
