To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, The Pokémon Company has begun the Mythical Pokémon Collection, a collection that spans the TCG, the video games, and even the merchandise. Each month, one Mythical (Legendary) Pokémon will be highlighted, receiving a plush, a figure, and a TCG collection. February’s Pokémon is none other than the first mythical Pokémon, Mew. Mew’s products are exclusive to GameStop stores in the US. The plush is roughly 8″ in height, done in a nice crushed velvet texture to give it a nice, almost metallic sheen. The plushes retail for $16.99 at GameStop. The Clip ‘n’ Carry Poké Ball release is of a small Monster Collection Mew figure painted in gorgeous metallic paint. It comes packed in a Great Ball. It retails for $9.99 at GameStop and doesn’t come packed in a box. Stay tuned for Celebi, March’s Mythical Pokémon!

I really enjoy the plush line. I’ve always been a big fan of Pokémon related plush toys, and I think it’s really cool that we’ll be receiving plush of so many legendary Pokémon. It’s even better that they’re done in that crushed velvet material that gives it a metallic finish that’s really original, at least to me. The packages they come in are really nice. I can’t wait to stack them all to make a neat 20th Anniversary display somewhere in my house.

The figures are a little strange in that GameStop releases come packaged in their ball, and not a box like the TRU releases are. This causes a problem with displaying (as I was gonna display them in box), but with the GameStop releases being the odd ball out, I guess I’ll just display them all opened. The figure itself is really nice, and the metallic paint matches the plush wonderfully. These will also make for a really neat display at the end of the year.

For fans of Mew, these are both wonderful purchases to celebrate the anniversary, or your love of Mew in general. If some other Pokémon captures your eye, play the waiting game for a Mythical Pokémon that tickles your fancy a little more than Mew does. This collection is gonna be great.
