Review

Ultraman Orb is here, and with him arrive a new series, and of course new toys. Ultraman X brought back the Spark Dolls gimmick of Ultraman Ginga, but also introduced Cyber Cards. With Ultraman Orb, Spark Dolls are a thing of the past, but Ultraman Orb takes the card gimmick a step further with the introduction of Ultra Fusion Cards. Each Ultra Fusion Card is representative of one Ultra Hero or Ultra Monster. The Ultra Hero cards can be scanned into the DX Orb Ring to create new forms and attacks for Ultraman Orb himself.

The DX Orb Ring is the main transformation item used by Gai Kurenai to become Ultraman Orb. By scanning two Ultra Fusion Cards, he can fuse the power of two Ultra Heroes into Ultraman Orb. Included with the toy are four Ultra Fusion Cards: Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Taro, and Ultraman Mebius. Scan Ultraman and Ultraman Tiga to create Ultraman Orb Specium Zeperion. Ultraman Taro and Ultraman Mebius can fuse to become Ultraman Orb Burnmite. The Ultra Fusion cards can be mixed and matched to hear their traditional attack names and sounds. Cards can also be scanned one at a time to hear the names and attack sounds individually. You can skip the card scanning and go straight into Specium Zeperion’s transformation tune (albeit slightly different) by just pressing the button with no cards scanned.

The Orb Ring has a decent amount of playability right out of the box with four Ultra Fusion Cards included and two possible forms. With new Ultra Fusion Cards coming with various toys and card sets, getting more and more fusion possibilities is relatively easy and pretty affordable to boot. I loved the XDivizer, and while I still do, there’s something really awesome about the Orb Ring. If you like Orb so far, give this one a go. Fusion Up!
