After the death of the D-Arts line, all franchises covered in there were shifted to the S.H.Figuarts line. After thinking Pokémon was dead for a while, the shown off Lucario was finally available for release! After being a star Pokémon in the Generation IV, a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, AND a Mega Evolution Pokémon in Generation VI, Lucario was a shoe-in for being the first non-Kanto Pokémon to be released. It was released in May, 2014 for ¥4,000. Now I’ve enjoyed all of the releases up till now, but Lucario is probably one of the best, if only because his humanoid design lends itself well to the S.H.Figuarts line (sort of like Mewtwo). It has joints in all the right places, but unfortunately has some difficulty standing thanks to Lucario’s weird feet design. While standing is possible, it’s not the easiest thing in the world. Design wise, Lucario looks great, and I see no real flaws in the sculpt, paint, or design of the toy. Included with Lucario are two additional…heads? Unlike swappable faces or full heads, Lucario includeds a gray head piece with his eyes on it. This piece snaps into the balljointed neck, while the remainder of his head snaps over the gray piece. It’s certainly different, but it works, and gives Lucario some neat options for his eyes. You also have an Aura Sphere effect part. Finally you have the iconic Poké Ball Tamashii Stage that includes two posts for both Lucario and the Aura Sphere part to create an awesome attacking pose. Overall, Lucario is a great addition to a line I’m really glad is continuing. If you’re a fan of Lucario, make sure you grab him while you can. Tamashii has just announced Mega Blaziken set to release in October, meaning the Pokémon line is going to continue strong, and I look forward to seeing what ends up getting released in the future.
