Unboxing: 1Up Box – March, 2015 “Villains”

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as “a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the boxes have shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $12.92 plus $6 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. Plus an exclusive shirt is always included! As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core.

March, 2015’s Theme: Villains

P1100692

• “Canned Laughter.” T-Shirt
• The Joker Whoopee Cushion
• POP! Keychain Harley Quinn
• Spoo-Key Cover Boo
• The Corrupted Hero Poster
• The Legend of Greed Wallet
• Villain Theme Pin
I’ll start by saying I’m not super huge on Batman of all the comics out there, but I do like myself some Coke, so the joke combo here actually works really well and I like it quite a bit. The whoopee cushion is pretty stupid, but fits the theme, so there’s that going at least. The POP! Keychain is pretty neat. I don’t know if I will use it, but my girlfriend might enjoy it if I don’t. The Spoo-key cover is adorable, and already hanging on my keys with Domo-kun and a Companion Cube. The wallet won’t ever get used, but it’s nice to potentially hang on a wall. Finally, the poster will hopefully get hung up somewhere. While I’m not super impressed with the box, it wasn’t awful either. Like I said in the video, 1Up Box is unique in that most of the items in every box are custom made, adding to the value. The only thing in this box available at a store is the POP! Keychain, which retail for about $4-$5. The rest are all custom made, and exclusive, which is definitely the charm of 1Up Box.
As with any of these subscription services, they aren’t for everyone. However, 1Up Box is currently the cheapest box on the market at only $12.92 before shipping. While you don’t get as much as you would in a Nerd Block or Loot Crate, you still more than get your money’s worth. In essence, it’s a great box for those that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, but still want to experience the joy of receiving that box in the mail. With them doing themes, you once again have the benefit of having a rough idea of what’s in store, to know if you want to get that month’s box or not. For those of you that can’t stomach the act of random goodies, well, these just aren’t for you.
