Last year, Pokémon sent me an item called the Collector’s Chest, a lunchbox shaped tin that included a bunch of kid friendly goodies, five booster packs, and some promo cards. Flash forward a little over a year and The Pokémon Company has released an all new Collector’s Chest. While Pokémon didn’t send me this one, I decided to pick one up to show off what’s inside. Each Collector’s Chest includes the lunchbox itself, three promo cards (XY88, XY89, and XY90), four themed pencils, one themed pad of paper, two sheets of themed stickers, and a themed mini-binder that holds 60 cards front and back, as well as five booster packs (two XY: BREAKthrough, one XY: Ancient Origins, one XY: Roaring Skies, and one XY: Primal Clash). The set in total retails for $24.99, which is a pretty decent price for five packs and everything else you get in return.

Everything in this set is themed around Pikachu, Hoopa, Mega Rayquaza, and Hoopa Unbound, usually surrounded by the teal and purple coloring of the Ancient Origins expansion, despite this being released with XY: BREAKthrough items. Regardless, for the promo collectors, this comes with three new XY promos: XY88 Chespin, XY 89 Pikachu, and XY90 Hoopa. The rest of the goods are rather hit and miss, with most collectors not needing trivial things like pencils, paper, or stickers. The mini-binder can come in handy for storing extra cards and the like, and is probably the most useful thing in the tin. The booster packs are the biggest selling point of course, so good luck in your pulls should you pick this up. I think the greatest part of the set is actually the container. While it’s your standard lunchbox, there’s enough space in it to store a deck, dice, coins, counters, extra cards, etc. While things can shift and bang around a bit, it’s still a nice way to store your supplies for a tournament for those that need something like this. With a clasp and handle, I feel it’s more sturdy than taking something like an Elite Trainer Box container or something like that. At $24.99, you’re basically paying a little under $5 for all the extra stuff that’s not booster packs, which totally works. This seems to be an annual release now, so let’s see what we get next year.
