To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Pokémon, The Pokémon Company International is putting together the Mythical Pokémon Collection, a new set of promotional box for the Pokémon TCG to tie into the monthly game downloads, plush, and figure releases of various legendary Pokémon. February’s Pokémon of choice is Mew, the very first “event exclusive” Pokémon. Each Mythical Pokémon Collection box contains a pin of that Pokémon, a full art promo card of that Pokémon, and two packs of the new Generations TCG expansion, a set containing various Japanese promo cards, subsets, and reprints from older sets. The Mythical Pokémon Collection and the upcoming Red & Blue Collection are the only way to currently get the Generations expansion booster packs.
As always, the pin itself is of great quality, and captures Mew perfectly. The included promo card is pretty much nothing worth playing, but has adorable artwork that makes a great addition to the collection. The card matches the texture and style of the previously released Hoopa EX and Pikachu-EX Legendary Collections, and would look great in a binder with them. Generations is going to be a pain to collect with packs being so uncommon, but it’ll be interesting to see how far the collection comes by year’s end.
