Review: World of Nintendo 2.5″ Figures – Series 1-1

World of Nintendo 2.5″ Figures – Series 1-1
$3.99 at Most Major Retailers (Purchased from TRU)

The World of Nintendo series is Jakks Pacific’s attempt at creating a singular line that contains each and every one of their Nintendo products. The line spans plush, 2.5″ figures, 4″ figures, 6″ figures, pull back cars, the Micro Land series, and much more. Each wave of toys for each line are labeled as if they were levels, with the first batch being 1-1, the second being 1-2, and so on and so forth, until something happens and we move to World 2. I love the unifying aspect of the brand, and the “wave” naming designations are really ingenious. As the name suggests, Jakks is pulling from all corners of the Nintendo universe, from Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and more.

Series 1-1 of the 2.5″ figures (my favorite scale for these) brings us Fire Mario, Ice Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong. Why they didn’t start with normal Mario and Luigi (those repaints will be in 1-3) is beyond me, but it’s really neat to see Fire Mario and Ice Luigi so quickly, especially since my previous figure displays from Jakks Pacific’s old lines never included those guys. Each figure has a pretty darn good sculpt for a $4 toy. Paint applications can be spotty, with some splotches or nicks here or there, but overall for the price, I’m thrilled with how they turned out. Most of the figure shave movement in the arms to some degree, but most don’t move besides that. I don’t expect a scale like this to have articulation, but given how Waluigi is stuck in a pose that will never allow him to stand is really irritating when trying to set up a display. Outside of Luigi toppling over constantly and Waluigi being unable to stand whatsoever, I’m really pleased with how these look.

If you’re a Nintendo fan looking to start a display that taps into all facets of the World of Nintendo while keeping space at the minimal, these are great pick ups. With six in this set, and more on the horizon, as long as the line continues, we should be in for quite the collection and variation, which excites me greatly. The lack of dedicated stands is definitely a problem for a lot of the figures, but they more than make up for it in the sculpt department. Certainly recommended.
