Unboxing: 1Up Box – October, 2015 “Nightmare”

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as “a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the boxes have shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $12.92 plus $6 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. Plus an exclusive shirt is always included! As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core.

1Up Box is back for a spoop surprise. I really like what they have going with this box. I’m not one for all things spoopy, but the blend of franchises I do actually like to make a box I enjoyed. Starting with the shirt, the blend of franchises to make a graveyard with Luigi front and center getting terrified by my favorite Ghost Pokémon line? Sign me up. The two POP! Keychains are great too, given I’ve been watching TWD and the significant other is in love with TNBC. It was a win-win in the selection department. The two other main items, the bracelet and the blindfold are neat in their own way, but nothing I would really use. Hoping I can shove the blindfold onto a Mario plush for giggles. Pop Rocks are the devil. The pin and poster are both great as well, with the poster again blending a bunch of franchises in a way 1Up Box pulls off magically every month. Wasn’t the best they’ve ever had, but I ended up liking this one a lot more then their Halloween themed box of 2014.
As with any of these subscription services, they aren’t for everyone. However, 1Up Box is currently the cheapest box on the market at only $12.92 before shipping. While you don’t get as much as you would in a Nerd Block or Loot Crate, you still more than get your money’s worth. In essence, it’s a great box for those that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, but still want to experience the joy of receiving that box in the mail. With them doing themes, you once again have the benefit of having a rough idea of what’s in store, to know if you want to get that month’s box or not. For those of you that can’t stomach the act of random goodies, well, these just aren’t for you.
