1Up Box – April, 2016 “Miniature” Unboxing

I was contacted by the kind folks at 1Up Box to become a 1Up Box Ambassador and show you guys what 1Up Box is all about! 1Up Box is a subscription box service that began in September, 2014 in a style that is very similar to Loot Crate, priding themselves as “a distributor that offers something remarkable, something creative, and something unique in which all geeks and gamers can fancy.” With a name like 1Up Box you would expect a focus on gaming, but the boxes have shown that 1Up Box plans to take gaming as a core, and give it a bit of a pop culture spin. Each 1Up Box is only $12.92 plus $6 shipping and handling. Boxes can also be subscribed to in three month and six month plans for added savings. Each Box is promised to include over $30 of merchandise totaling 4-6 items on average. Plus an exclusive shirt is always included! As mentioned, each month will follow a particular theme at the core.

Contents of April, 2016’s box, as well as my unboxing video are after the jump.

April, 2016’s Theme: Miniature

• “Shortcake Party” Shirt
• Nintendo Baby Plush (Baby Mario)
• Ant Race Drawstring Bag (Ant Man inspired)
• Munchkin decal (Minion inspired)
• Squishy Stressball (Kirby inspired)
• Egg Coaster (Yoshi inspired)
• “Miniature” Pin

Miniature was a pretty random theme, especially with Civil War on the way (or out in most countries), you’d think they’d try to rehash last month’s versus theme to something new to go with the hype. The contents of this months box are all over the board. The shirt is sort of punny, being labeled “Shortcake Party”, and all the characters being their “shortcake” versions. Other than the obvious “Mario, I’ve baked a cake for you!” references, this one is sort of silly. Speaking of Mario, it continues with a Baby plush, consisting of Mario, Luigi, or Peach. The Nintendo love continues with “Egg Coaster”, a Yoshi themed coaster for your desk that I’m actually using right now, as well as the “Squishy Stressball”, a Kirby print stressball with his adorable little face on it. Finally we bounce over to Marvel with an Ant Man inspired drawstring bag and to well, Minions of all things with a silly little decal. Not the greatest, but I like the Nintendo themed items quite a bit at the very least.
